The Marine Corps League
Incorporated by an act of Congress in 1937, the Marine Corps League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of all Marines and Navy Corpsmen, who proudly wear or have worn the eagle, globe and anchor of the Corps.
The League is also comprised of associate and auxiliary members from other military branches of service, who have served our Country and have been honorably discharged. Today League membership nationally, has grown to over 60,000 members.
The James L Hammons Detachment #939 was formed in 1996 to fulfill the mission stated below within the context of service to our community. The Detachment derives its name from the brother of our first Commandant, Ed Hammons, who was killed in action in Vietnam. Today the detachment boasts of over 100 active members. The detachment is located in historic Aiken, South Carolina.
